The seemingly endless beach above is on the Oregon coast. Take a three week vacation and ride there tomorrow. I spent a few weeks in the fall of 2005 riding across the USA on my trusty Suzuki Katana (which is now living out its old age in Bombay). The country is littered with wonderful landscapes and sprinkled with generous, friendly people. The West Coast north of San Francisco in particular has so much of both.
